Bit of advice needed please. Converting my old Raleigh bike into a fixie. And was wondering what's the difference from 44/16 and 38/14 gear ratio (apart from a very slightly different ratio)?

Don't quote me on this but I think for every tooth you go down on the rear fixed gear is the equivalent of getting 3 teeth added on the ring gear. 🚴❤

many things going. on the smaller the front ring the easier to skid stop, and brake in general. If you are looking for top end speed you want a larger front ring. I've tried just about every combination and I prefer a smaller front ring. I also have multiple fixies geared differently for different types of riding (Hills or flat, commute or pleasure - it's a lifestyle.

I'm currently TTing on a 113 inch gear 50 X 12 and can average 40kmh for a club 10.

It's almost the same gear ratio. I don't think that you are going to feel the difference.

44/16 - Ratio: 2.75
38/14 - Ratio: 2.71
